Project Pathfinders Highlights Local Teacher

Meet April Jarrett – a home day care provider in Dinwiddie, VA. April was inspired to become a child care professional after a career in the military during which she experienced firsthand the challenges of finding affordable, high-quality care for her own children.

After 15 years of caring for children as a state licensed and Fort Lee licensed home-based provider, April is pursuing her associate degree in early childhood thanks to the Project Pathfinders scholarship program. The specialized coursework at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College helped April develop new strategies and ideas for her day-to-day work with young children. “I keep myself in training and in school so I can be better for the children and their parents,” says April.

After discovering the Project Pathfinders Scholarships for early educators, she described the program as a blessing. The Pathfinders Scholarship will help her with tuition costs as she heads into her last semester.

Where will April’s new skills and education take her? April hopes to open her own center-based child care facility in the near future so she can continue to provide high-quality early learning and a sense of security for working parents.
