Last Thursday, October 27th First Connections VA is participated in Read for the Record, a national effort to draw awareness to the importance of early childhood literacy.

Over a decade ago, Read for the Record was established to address the issues that leave too many children unprepared for kindergarten.

Now on one day each year, preschools across the United States join in and read the same story. This year, it was ‘The Bear Ate Your Sandwich’ by Julia Sarcone-Roach.

Smart Beginning Southeast donated over 100 of these books to participating Early Childhood Programs spread throughout our region. Over 1,447 children in the First Connections VA region were read to on the Read for the Record day!
